I get quite a few requests asking me what great books there are for further reading into your experiences. I would like to put together a monthly list that will help you to navigate your learning and understanding to help you grow. In this section I will include books on narcissistic personality disorder, spirituality and various other psychological books. I welcome any other recommendations you have for books and also your reviews of the books that have been featured in the blog post.
We start of the blog with Start Here a Crash Course In Understanding, Navigating and Healing from Narcissistic Abuse by Dana Morningstar. You might recognise Dana from the YouTube channel : thrive after abuse. She has been making videos, leading support groups and podcasts. This book released in January 2018, looks at healing after narcissistic abuse.
The book is a guide to clarity and understanding that many survivors looks for after narcissistic abuse. Providing validation for moving forward into healing and happiness. This book is for clarity seekers and those seeking insight into what they have experienced or are experiencing. Support strategy on how to heal from narcissistic abuse. This is a great resource that leads the reader through step by step clarity and validation on how to move forward and explain this challenging phenomenon to professionals who have not caught up with what is happening out there.
Another great title is How To Handle A Narcissist by Therese Strang. This book takes a human approach to narcissism theory, combining cutting edge research, literature and discussion from academia with real and solid case studies and personal perspectives from those who have been affected first hand. It is split into four sections, first looking at what narcissism is and understanding the vast array of narcissistic behaviour, including healthy and extreme narcissism.
The second section is made up of stories what other people have experienced at the hands of a narcissist at different points of the spectrum and how they dealt with it. A great book in deepening your understanding into this condition.
Of course I would include Judgement Detox (Gabby Bernstein). I think that this makes a really good reminder on how you can grow on your recovery journey. This is the newest book in gabby’s collection and I feel it is one of her best. I did go and attend the live workshop of this in June 2018 in London. A really interesting insight in to Gabby’s inspiration of why she wrote it.
Gabby teaches us or reminds us the principles of not having the judgement that we do for another person. Now I know that not all of us are at the same stages of recovery and this will not be suitable for everybody but the main concept behind this book is not not sit in the feeling of judgement. Judgement is a negative feeling that only serves to damage us.
The last book in this review is Moonology by Yasmin Boland. She offers her teachings on how to work with the moons energy and lunar cycle to cultivate a happier life. She teaches us to live by the cycle to live to our optimum capacity. Inside is a premise on how to work with lunar cycles and to use its energy to provide empowerment in every aspect of your life. You can also use the moon as a self care guide and planner.
I hope that you have enjoyed these recommendations for August. These books would serve as a great summer read and helping you further your understanding and spiritual growth.
